Tea For Two

The museum will be celebrating Heritage Open Days this weekend, baking scones in our Victorian kitchen and serviing cream teas in our Spring Rock Tea Rooms - come and see our newlook museum!

Bread Bake

Come in out of the cold and see our bread team in action in our Victorian kitchen. You might like to buy some freshly made bread to take home for tea!

Time To Make Marmalade!

Marmalade-making demonstration in our Victorian kitchen.
Come and learn how to make this traditional preserve.

Chocolate!

An evening of indulgence!
Learn about chocolate, browse through our selection of chocolate cookery books and recipes, watch demonstrations of making wonderful truffles and chocolate delights by Deco Handmade Chocolates, taste and perhaps buy some to take home.............mmmmn.
And just in time for Valentine's Day too.
Admission by ticket only, £5, including refreshments (chocolate ones of course!) obtainable from the museum or telephone 01484 659762 with your contact details to reserve tickets.
Begins at 7pm. Don't have a big tea beforehand.

Havercakes!

Another exciting weekend with lots going on in our Victorian kitchen! Demonstrations of making havercakes (oatcakes) which were once a main part of the West Yorkshire working class diet.

On Sunday afternoon we hope to see the 33rd Regiment of Foot (who were known as 'The Havercake Lads'). Come and find out why and try a 'traycle shauve' for yourself.

Golcar Lily Knit-In

Tree-cosies! You heard it here first!
Come along and see what the Golcar Lily team are plotting for this year's community gala day (Saturday May 11th).
Knitters will be invited to join in the project and beginners will be taught this traditional and popular craft.

Chocolate!

Huddersfield Film Makers Club present items from their past annual programmes, including some of the Colne Valley and from the Museum, at Marsden United Church, beginning at 7pm.

Golcar Lily Day

Colne Valley Museum joins in Golcar Lily Day!
Ongoing demonstrations throughout the day and lots of make-it-and-take-it-home activities for all the family.
Our special Golcar Lily Loaf will be baked in our Victorian kitchen and there'll be lots of delicious home made cakes on sale in our cafe.
Don't forget to visit our stall on Town End.

A Yorkshire Evening

An evening of dialect poetry and prose by Margaret Wainwright.
Tickets are £6 including refreshments, which will be of local 'Yorkshire fayre'.

Sunday is Stir Up Sunday and Mrs Sykes will be making her Christmas Puddings--come and help stir them up and make a wish! (and maybe buy one for Christmas!)

Wartime Wizardry

Philip Horn is giving a fascinating talk on the contribution that magicians and illusionists helped the government during WW2.

Christmas Market and Stir Up Sunday

Browse our Christmas Craft Market and indulge in some Christmas shopping for unusual and unique gifts including vintage toys and traditional craft kits.
Our tea room will be serving traditional Christmas goodies including mince pies and Christmas cake served with Wensleydale cheese.
Come and help Mrs. Sykes make her Christmas Puddings on Stir Up Sunday and learn about other Christmas customs.
Open 1.00 - 4.00pm both days.

We shall have our usual stall at this fabulous event, run by the Textile Society, on Sunday March 6th, open from 10am.

Havercakes!

It’s Havercakes! weekend at Colne Valley Museum and there is a bustle of activity in the Victorian kitchen as our volunteers prepare to demonstrate making havercakes (oatcakes).

The Havercake Lads of His Majesty’s 33rd Regiment of Foot will be drilling in the area on Sunday and may just call in at the Museum – rumour has it they are looking for recruits. And no doubt hoping to cadge some freshly made havercakes at the same time!

The Big Book Sale

Colne Valley Museum will be holding a Big Book Sale at Golcar Providence Church from 10am to 12 midday.
Come and bag a bargain!
Teas, coffees and home made cakes will be available.

Bread Bake

Our volunteers will be baking white bread in our Victorian kitchen. Oh, that heavenly smell! Come and see, taste and buy some for tea perhaps?

Golcar Lily Day

The Museum is pleased to support Golcar Lily Day which has for it's theme this year "Golcar Framed."

Our Spring Rock Tea Rooms will be displaying photographs of the village from Renaissance (which will be for sale).

Upstairs in our new meeting room we will be showing a series of short films about the museum over the years, courtesy of the Huddersfield Film Society.

There will also be some children's D-I-Y activities and our volunteers will be demonstrating traditional crafts throughout the day.

Don't forget to visit our Victorian kitchen where our bread team will be baking our famous Golcar Lily Loaf - first come, first served!
We will be serving refreshments all day in our Spring Rock Tea Room.

Biscuits and Buns!

A celebration of baking (and tasting!) in our Victorian kitchen. Children can have a go at decorating a biscuit or bun to take home.
